Chapter 7

When Colleen woke, it was early morning. The gray light of dawn seeped in through the window, lighting the room enough for her to recognize that she wasn’t at home. She turned onto her side. Dan let out a soft snore beside her. Recalling the night before, she grinned to herself.

All too soon, her smile slipped.

She’d never had a one-night stand before, and didn’t know what to do. Well, she knew what she wanted to do, but already, she considered Dan to be the greatest guy in the world. She didn’t want him to burst that bubble. After the ecstasy he had given her last night, she didn’t want to discover that he wasn’t quite the hero she painted him. So instead of waking him up with her mouth on his cock, she decided to leave.

Gingerly, she slid out of the bed, trying not to disturb him. He murmured in his sleep, rolling over, and she froze. But he didn’t wake up. Letting out a slow breath, she found and pulled on her G-string from last night, donned her trench coat, and carried her heels with her to the door.

She pulled her cellphone from her pocket as she slipped out into the chill autumn air. Dialing for a cab, she waited outside for it to arrive.

Throughout the cab ride to her apartment, she tried not to think about Dan, but it was futile. He had given her the best night of her life, and she felt guilty sneaking out without so much as a “Thanks for last night.” But she’d had to do it. She couldn’t bring herself to face him.

Thank God, no one lurked this early in the morning to witness her sneaking into her own apartment building. Pulling her trench coat close around her painted skin, she hunched into the elevator and prodded the button to take her to her floor. Upon reaching it, she hurried to her apartment, unlocked the door, and slipped inside. She leaned against the door with a sigh.

Once she’d gathered herself together, she decided she needed a shower. After prying her contacts from her eyes--the other reason she hated to wear them; she rarely remembered to take them out before bed--she turned on the spray and stepped inside.

Even then, she couldn’t get Dan out of her head. If anything, standing naked beneath the spray rooted him more firmly inside it. The memory of his fleeting touches to her sensitive flesh heated her skin. Leaning against the wall, she reached down to circle her bud. With her eyes closed, she pictured Dan’s face, his eyes wicked as he teased the same part of her with his tongue. Even recalling that pleasure heightened her need for him. Grinding her hand against her clit, she bit her lip as she brought herself to orgasm. It was shallow, though, and couldn’t compare to the pleasure he had given her.

But she wasn’t in the shower to dwell on what had been. Her time with Dan had been the most amazing time of her life, but it was over now.
